Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship>>> This photo album was created by who we think was a Columbus resident in the 1890s, roughly 1894 to 1898.
And this photo album is particularly remarkable because it gives us lots of wonderful pictures of Columbus in this early period.
But this man was also a member of a photography interest club.
So not only are a lot of the pictures beautifully shot, they also include some experimental 19th-century photo editing.
And he does capture some significantly historical events as well, like the 1894 eclipse and Governor McKinley's visit to Delaware, Ohio in 1898.
The photographer includes lots of witty, handwritten captions to his photographs.
It looks like the family spent most of their time in Columbus, but there are lots of pictures of his family visiting relatives in Urbana, Ohio, pictures of his girls wading in the river, sketching by the river, which we presume is their mother.
Some of the photographs visiting relatives in Urbana show sort of what we think of as a classic Victorian Christmas.
Family members gathered around the tree, children playing with freshly unwrapped gifts.
Really just paints a picture of what their daily lives were like.
As you can imagine, a lot of the content of the photo album includes the photographer's two daughters.
There's even photographs of them second bed or their mother trying to give them their medicine and tonic with some very disgruntled looks on their faces.
It's really a window into their lives, as not many of these photographs were staged.
They were just candid shots of daily life.
