>> WELL, WE STARTED IN 1989, A GROUP OF ARTISTS STARTED THE GALLERY WITH ARTISTS IN MIND.
EMERGES ARTISTS DIDN'T HAVE A SPACE TO SHOW THEIR WORK, SO THEY DECIDED TO PUT TOGETHER A GALLERY FOR THEIR FRIENDS, AND THEY ACTUALLY MADE BISCOTTI TO MAKE RENT.

>> THAT IS A CHARMING WAY TO MAKE RENT.
>> I KNOW, YES.
>> WE SHOULD DO THAT.

WE WANT TO WORK WITH ARTISTS AT THAT STAGE OF THEIR DEVELOPMENT.

THE GALLERY IS FOR EMERGING ARTISTS AND THAT IS NOT SOMETHING THAT OTHER GALLERIES OFFER.
WE ARE ALSO A NONPROFIT.
THAT IS ALSO SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT.
WHEN ARTISTS ARE EXITING AT ROY, IT'S NOT IMPORTANT IF THEY SELL WORK.
THE OBJECTIVE IS FOR THEM TO HAVE THE EXPERIENCE OF HAVING WORK IN THE SPACE.

SO ARTISTS APPLY TO BE THERE, AND WE CONVENE A JOURNEY TO REVIEW THE APPLICATIONS AND A TEAM TO PUT THE EXHIBITIONS TOGETHER, AND BECAUSE WE'RE AN INCLUSIVE GALLERY, AND YOU WILL SEE A VARIETY OF TWO DIMENSIONAL WORK.

>> WE HAVE CURATED ALL OF THE INGREDIENTS.
WE ARE GOING TO ASSEMBLE THINGS.

WE DO AN ANNUAL CALL FOR END RIPS TO GET ARTISTS TO APPLY AND THEN WE SLATE OUR SHOWS FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR.
SO WE KNOW ANNUALLY WHO WILL BE IN THE GALLERY.

BEFORE WE DIG IN, TELL ME ABOUT THE COMMUNITY SURROUNDING THE GALLERY AND HOW YOU INTERACT WITH IT.
>> WELL, WE STARTED IN 1989 AND WE WERE IN THE SHORT NORTH FOR 30 YEARS AND MOVED TO FRANKLINTON, A WONDERFUL, EMERGING CREATIVE SPACE, WHAT IS PERFECT FOR ROY, AND FRANKLINTON IS LIKE AN ALL BOATS RIDE SITUATION, WHERE WE ARE COLLABORATING WITH EACH OTHER.
WE WORK ON COMMUNITY EVENTS TOGETHER, AND WE OPEN EXHIBITIONS TODAY.
FRANKLINTON FRIDAYS, THE SECOND FRIDAY OF THE MONTH.
SOMETIMES WE HAVE GROUP EXHIBITIONS OR SOME OF THE INTERNS MIGHT HAVE EXPERIENCES AT OTHER GALLERIES IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD.
WE ALSO SHARE RESOURCES AND BEST PRACTICES.
IT'S A REALLY WONDERFUL COMMUNITY.
