In ballet, the Grand Jete – or “giant leap” – is essentially the act of performing the splits in midair. With the help of a dancer demonstrating his technique, Broad & High spoke with BalletMet, physicists and sports-medicine professionals to deconstruct the grand jete down to its barest essentials and discover what kind of skills and athleticism it takes to successfully execute this move.
