HE WAS THE SON OF A DAIRY FARMER.
AND THE FAMILY WAS INVOLVED IN ICE CREAM , THAT IS A NATURAL THING TO DO.

ABOUT SEVEN FAMILY MEMBERS AND HIS FAMILY WERE INVOLVED IN THE ICE CREAM BUSINESS AND HE FOLLOWS IT.
HE HAD AN UNCLE NAMED JAY MARTIN WHO CAME TO COLUMBUS AROUND THE EARLY 1900S, AND HE WAS INVOLVED IN A COMPANY CALLED THE FURNACE ICE CREAM COMPANY.
HE FOLLOWED HIM OUT TO THE CITY WHILE HIS OTHER RELATIVES WERE GOING AROUND THE MIDWEST FORMING COMPANIES.
HE QUICKLY ROSE TO POWER IN THE COMPANY AND BECAME PRESIDENT.
OAKS NEIGHBORHOOD BECAUSE HE STARTED OFF IN THE OLD THE FACTORY WAS AROUND GRAND AVENUE.
AND THEY DID HAVE PARLORS ALL AROUND THE CITY.
ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF COLUMBUS.
BORDEN COMES ONTO THE SCENE AND STARTS GATHERING UP THESE SMALLER BUSINESSES.
HIM AND HIS WIFE DECIDE TO MOVE OUT TO WHAT WAS CONSIDERED THE COUNTRY THEN IN 1920 , AND WHERE HE ENDS UP MOVING IS JUST WEST OF THE RIVER TO THE WILLIAMS PROPERTY, WHICH IS ON THIS MAP RIGHT HERE JUST ADJACENT TO THE WORTHINGTON AREA.
THE ORIGINAL PROPERTY WAS BUILT BY THE BOY'S FAMILY IN1875.
AFTER ANTRIM BOUGHT THE PROPERTY ,HE DID A LOT OF RENOVATIONS TO THE FARMHOUSE TO MAKE IT LOOK MORE MODERN.
>> AS WORTHINGTON STARTS BUILDING UP IN THE TEENS AND20s, IT IS BECOMING LESS COUNTRY AND BECOMING MORE OF A CITY PLACE.
ANTRIM IS BUYING PROPERTIES ALONGSIDE THE WEST SIDE OF THE RIVER, HE IS BUYING ADJACENT PROPERTIES.
OF PROPERTY.
TWO VERY LARGE PIECES THIS ONE MEASURING 90 ACRES.
THIS IS THE PROPERTY AROUND1952.
YOU CAN SEE THAT EVERETT HA STHIS LARGE PORTION OF LAND.
NEARLY83 ACRES.
HE ALSO HAVE THIS ADDITIONAL PORTION, 31 ACRES.
SO HE WANTS TO START WORRYING NEXT TO THE RIVER.
HE STARTS TO DO THAT, EXCEPT NOW THERE IS A SUBDIVISION RIGHT NEXT TO IT.
INDIAN HILLS WAS ONCE OWNED BY EVERETT ANTRIM.
THE CITIZENS OF THAT SUBDIVISION ARE NOT THAT HAPPY, BECAUSE IT IS LOUD AND DIRTY.
THEY ARE THINKING, WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS QUARRY FOR ALONG TIME.
WHATEVER IT ENDS UP DOING IS GOING TO THE CITY AND ASKING THEM TO PASS A RESOLUTION SAYING THAT HE CAN BUILD THIS QUARRY.
THE PEOPLE ON THE CITY COUNCILOR KIND OF ON THE FENCE.
SOME PEOPLE ARE AGAINST IT,SOME PEOPLE ARE FOR IT BUT IT IS WITHIN ONE OR TWO VOTES.
THEY HAVE TO COMPROMISE.
IN 1959, THEY REACH AN AGREEMENT WITH CITY COUNCIL TO SELL OFF THIS PROPERTY TO THE CITY AFTER 10 YEARS.
THEY ARE GOING TO MINE AT STARTING IN 1962, AROUND 1970.
AT THAT POINT, THEY LET THE CITY TAKE CONTROL OF THE LAND.
EVERETT ANTRIM DIES IN 1966.
THEY ARE NOT FINISHED WITH WORRY YET.
AFTER HE DIES, AND THE QUARRY OPERATION STOPS, HIS WIDOW DONATES $100,000 TO THE CITY TO HELP THEM DEVELOP THE PROPERTY THAT WAS ALREADY SOLD IN 1959.
SHE MAKES SOME STIPULATIONS COME IT WOULD BE NAMED AFTER HER HUSBAND AND THERE WOULD BEA SHELTER HOUSE.
BY 1975, THEY THINK IT IS GOING TO COST OVER $1 MILLION TO BUILD.
BUT ULTIMATELY, THEY FIND OUT IT COSTS ROUGHLY $500,000 TO BUILD THE PARK .
A LOT LESS THAN THEY THOUGHT.
ABOUT1978, 1979, RIDE ALONG ANTRIM LAKE , THEY BUILD THIS GIANT RUNNING LOOP AROUND THE LAKE.
